The comic we are looking at today is Joker. It is a 2008 American comic book published by DC Comics based on characters from DC's Batman series. As the title suggests, the focus is only on one character, but it is narrated by one of his henchmen, making the comic even more enjoyable. Joker was initially being slated as a miniseries for October 2008, but DC opted to publish it as an original hardback in time for Halloween instead.

It is written by Brian Azzarello, who has given us masterpieces like Broken City and 100 Bullets and illustrated by Lee Bermejo. It's a novel perspective on the Batman mythos, taking place outside of ordinary continuity and told by one of the Joker's minions. It has given a fresh, breath-taking take on Batman's arch adversary, as well as a distinct vision of Gotham City, arguably the most loathsome metropolis in modern popular fiction, seemingly out of nowhere. It is one of the few effective attempts to pry past the surface of the Joker's impenetrable psyche, after Alan Moore's The Killing Joke.
