Why did Jose Rizal Turn Around? #shorts
Published at : December 31, 2022
Dr. Jose Rizal was sentenced by the Spanish colonizers to death by firing squad. Jose Rizal was ordered to be shot at the back, but as the executioners fired, Jose Rizal turned around, and died on his back, facing the 8 Filipino soldiers who shot him. Jose Rizal is known for writing multiple books which exposes the injustice of the Spanish government. Jose Rizal's work helped slowly inspire the Philippine Revolution. Naturally, the Spanish Cortes had to silence Jose Rizal by sentencing him to death. Rizal insisted to be shot at the front to show that he is not a traitor, and that he is not afraid to die. But the Spanish captain refused and ordered Jose Rizal to be shot at the back anyway. Jose Rizal took his last chance and turned around to face the bullet, going against the captain’s orders. Turning around was perhaps Jose Rizal’s final act of defiance.
